The Chief of Major and Planned Philanthropy is responsible for spearheading the Straz Center's initiatives in major and planned giving by formulating and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy aimed at achieving established objectives. This role involves identifying, nurturing, and engaging potential and existing donors to negotiate and finalize various planned giving arrangements and significant outright contributions that support the Straz Center's long-term programs, endowment, and capital projects.
This position collaborates closely with the Chief Development Officer and senior volunteers to establish policies regarding major gifts and planned giving. It requires a thoughtful analysis of the implications of proposed gift arrangements and decisions on the organization, integrating these efforts with the overall fundraising strategy. Success in this role is measured by the effectiveness in securing gift commitments, emphasizing donor engagement, cultivation, and stewardship. Annually, the Chief reviews the strategic plan to set goals for endowment and planned giving, along with actionable steps and budget expectations for the upcoming year.

Key Responsibilities:
Information Dissemination on Major and Planned Gifts
- Design and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy to promote endowment and planned giving opportunities to all stakeholders.
- Oversee the development of related promotional materials and online content.
- Initiate targeted informational outreach to potential donors and respond to inquiries promptly.
- Document interactions with donors through timely call reports.
- Provide regular updates to leadership and the foundation board as required.
Prospective Donor Identification
- Collaborate with leadership to identify funding priorities for the endowment and major gifts.
- Develop and execute strategies to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects for major and planned gifts.
- Utilize a moves management system to ensure prospects are effectively engaged throughout the solicitation process.
- Create tailored engagement plans for each prospect in the portfolio.
- Work with other development officers to coordinate endowment and planned giving strategies.
- Enhance connections with the professional planned giving community and keep them informed about the Straz Center's initiatives.
- Maintain an organized record-keeping system to ensure timely follow-up with all contacts.
Donor Cultivation
- Engage with prospects and current donors through personalized communication and scheduled visits to foster interest in Straz Center programs.
- Address inquiries and keep prospects informed about the organization and its offerings.
- Build and strengthen relationships by managing an active portfolio of prospects.
Contribution Planning
- Utilize gift agreements and letters of intent to assist donors in structuring their contributions.
Proposal Writing and Presentations
- Articulate the plans for major or planned gifts in a clear and persuasive manner to prospective donors and their representatives.
- Consult with experts as necessary to refine proposal details.
Donor Commitment Maintenance
- Ensure donors feel confident and enthusiastic about their giving decisions.
- Implement a comprehensive stewardship plan that includes timely acknowledgments, annual updates on the impact of gifts, and recognition based on contribution levels.
- Manage a recognition program for all major and planned gifts, initiating appreciation efforts and events.
Donor Relationship Management
- Maintain ongoing relationships with donors through regular communication and engagement.
- Stay alert to opportunities for additional gift planning with donors.
- Seek regular and larger contributions to support the ongoing initiatives of the Straz Center.
- Develop and update policies related to endowment and planned gifts.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but collaborates with and oversees support personnel as needed to implement fundraising strategies.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Stay informed about the latest trends, strategies, and legal developments in endowment and planned giving.
- Remain knowledgeable about the performing arts sector and the Straz Center's mission and vision.
- Contribute to team efforts in planning and development, participating in decision-making processes.
- Assist with departmental functions and special events as necessary to ensure smooth operations.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- A minimum of seven years of fundraising or related experience with a proven track record in securing major and/or planned gifts.
- Advanced knowledge of major gift solicitation and capital campaign fundraising is a plus.
