Suffolk County Sheriff's Department is a leading organization in public safety, mandated to ensure and enhance safety for citizens of Boston, Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop. The department is overseen by Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins, who leads the Suffolk County Jail, the House of Correction, and the Suffolk County Community Corrections Center.

About Us:
The department's operations and custody staff are committed to meeting the needs of offender populations, providing rehabilitation and reentry services. The department's efforts are focused on strategic planning and process improvement.

Responsibilities:
The Grant Writer will research and identify grant prospects at the state and national level. This includes determining proposal concepts by identifying opportunities and needs, studying requests for proposal (RFPs), attending strategy meetings, and developing a strong understanding of the organization's work, programs, priorities, innovations, history, mission, and results.

Key responsibilities include maintaining grant deadlines and program trackers, entering relevant information into the organization's database, and meeting proposal deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information. The Grant Writer will also coordinate requirements with various program staff and contribute proposal status information.

The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated history of handling communication with high-net worth donors and/or foundation representatives. The Grant Writer will draft, revise, and produce high-quality proposals and reports for multiple stakeholders, using templates and following proposal-writing standards. The candidate will also assemble information, including project nature, objectives, outcomes, deliverables, implementation, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, standards of performance, and evaluation.

Requirements:
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years' experience in grant writing, prospect research, general fundraising, or comparable and transferable skills acquired in a professional setting. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the donor market, a willingness to research markets outside of Illinois and nationally, and strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The candidate will also have a strong entrepreneurial attitude, including a drive for results and proven ability to stay focused on goals, as well as strong organizational skills, ability to follow processes, and attention to detail.

Skills and Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have strong written communication and presentation skills, strong computer and Internet proficiency, including Microsoft Office, and experience working in a fast-paced, quick turnaround environment. The ideal candidate will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, together with the ability to work collaboratively and courteously with external partners, and high professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information.
