The Commonwealth of Virginia is looking for a committed professional to fill the role of Family Services Specialist I. This position focuses on delivering essential services in the realm of Adult Services and Adult Protective Services. The ideal candidate will engage in a variety of tasks, including investigating claims of adult mistreatment, providing testimony in court, and aiding adults in securing placements in care facilities. Additionally, this role involves participation in collaborative task forces, strategic planning initiatives, and outreach efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interprets relevant laws, policies, and regulations
- Coordinates and manages program operations
- Conducts interviews and assesses client needs
- Delivers comprehensive case management services
- Oversees program waiting lists
- Collaborates with other agencies
- Monitors program effectiveness
- Acts as a resource for clients and the community
- Provides after-hours on-call support
Essential Qualifications:
Knowledge: Strong understanding of social work principles, human behavior theories, and societal issues.
Skills: Competence in operating a motor vehicle and utilizing personal computers with relevant software.
Abilities: Effective communication skills, capability to develop service plans, sound judgment, and the ability to foster productive relationships.
Education and Experience: A Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services discipline or equivalent experience is required. A BSW or MSW degree along with a Virginia Social Worker license is advantageous.
Preferred Attributes:
Experience in social or human services settings, bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, and familiarity with working with elderly, disabled, or mentally ill individuals are preferred.
Special Considerations:
Applicants may be subject to various background checks as part of the hiring process. A valid Virginia Driver's License is mandatory.
