POSITION GRADE
Temporary Customer Service Agent - $18/hour
WORK LOCATION
Annapolis, Maryland
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Comptroller of Maryland's Taxpayer Services Division is in search of Temporary Customer Service Agents to assist taxpayers by addressing and resolving inquiries received via telephone in our call center.
Comprehensive tax training will be provided, along with necessary equipment. Temporary roles may lead to permanent positions. The Comptroller of Maryland offers a competitive benefits package and attractive wages for employees.Available schedules for call center representatives are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with extended hours until 6:00 p.m. during peak periods.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Completion of an accredited high school program or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience:
A minimum of two years of experience in one or more of the following areas: customer service, telecommunications, fiscal clerical, or related clerical work. At least six months of this experience must include operating computers.
NOTES:
Additional education from an accredited college or university may substitute for required experience at the rate of thirty credit hours for one year of experience. U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in accounting and budget classifications may also substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
For education obtained outside the U.S., proof of equivalent American education will be required as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service.
SELECTION LIMITATIONS
Must be available to work full-time, Monday through Friday, with required hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role may involve exposure to uncomfortable or unpleasant environments and occasional interactions with upset taxpayers. Leave may be restricted during peak times due to high volume events or special assignments. Evening and weekend work may be necessary during busy periods. The role may also involve physical demands such as lifting between 25 to 35 pounds.
Employees are prohibited from preparing tax returns outside of job requirements or working for private accounting services.
