Job DescriptionAt SCHARP California, we are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our team. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing support and guidance to individuals who have experienced homelessness, mental illness, and/or substance use issues.

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, you will function as a member of the Outreach Triage Team, adhering to all program guidelines and requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Respond to requests to support clients experiencing urgent crisis situations, providing assistance in obtaining community services and advocating for the client when needed.

• Provide case management services, including escorting consumers to indicated resources and ensuring linkage is made.

• Visit consumers in detox units, recovery homes, and sober living homes, sharing your experience with mental illness and substance abuse in a manner that communicates hope.

• Participate in presentations to drug treatment programs, sharing your experience and expertise.

• Attend DMH training and meetings as assigned.

Requirements:

• Must have experience in living with and managing a psychiatric disorder, and/or substance use issue in sustained recovery.

• Knowledge of 12-step programs and various aspects of recovery from substance abuse.

• Ability to respond quickly, effectively, and with equanimity to member crises and life situations.

• Ability to work as a team member and to work with other agencies and community resources.

• Must have a valid California Driver's license and the availability of a car with adequate insurance.
