As a Lead AI Research Scientist, you will explore research methodologies, evaluate implementation risks, and establish success metrics for various AI/ML initiatives while collaborating with fellow research scientists and machine learning engineers.

You will be actively engaged throughout the entire AI innovation lifecycle, from model prototyping to deployment and ongoing learning.

The ideal candidate will possess a solid scientific foundation and a proven history of successfully researching and delivering scalable AI-driven products with hands-on execution. We seek someone who is unafraid to embrace bold challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive one or more phases of the ML development lifecycle: shape datasets, explore modeling strategies and architectures, train/evaluate/tune models, and implement the end-to-end training pipeline.
  • Utilize cutting-edge research to deliver high-quality models that enable multiple AI projects at scale.
  • Contribute to the research community through academic publications, technical blogs, open-source contributions, and participation in internal/external AI challenges.

What You Bring
A Master's Degree (PhD preferred) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field.

  • Hands-on experience in developing, scaling, and implementing machine learning solutions using relevant programming languages (such as Python), advanced deep learning frameworks (such as PyTorch and TensorFlow), and code development and review tools (such as GitHub).
  • 5+ years of combined academic and industrial research experience in developing Computer Vision solutions (including object detection, tracking, recognition, and visual scene understanding) in a professional context.
  • A record of publications and contributions to the machine learning community.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data, model architecture, learning algorithms/optimization, evaluation metrics, and testing scenarios.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with scientists, engineers, and product managers, along with the ability to convey complex AI and Machine Learning concepts to a broader audience.
  • Experience with active learning, synthetic data, and one-shot/data-efficient training of ML models.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with distributed machine learning and deploying models at scale in cloud environments (such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud).
  • Familiarity with IoT/Edge AI and optimizing ML models for on-device execution with constrained compute, power, and latency budgets.

Benefits may vary based on employment nature and location.

Compensation:
Axon offers a total compensation package, which includes base pay, bonuses, and stock awards. The starting base pay for this role ranges from USD 180,000 in the lowest geographic market to USD 290,000 in the highest geographic market. The on-target earnings range for this role is between USD 340,000 in the lowest geographic market and USD 500,000 in the highest geographic market. Actual base pay is influenced by various factors, including level, function, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and geographic market.
