About the Role

At Optima Engineering, we are seeking a skilled and dedicated professional to join our team as a Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality engineering solutions to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Support the proposal process by providing project managers and clients with input on design options, project schedules, and code review.
  • Site Visits: Perform site visits to existing facilities for renovation/addition projects to gather information on existing conditions.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work with project managers, designers, and other disciplines to prepare construction drawings and calculations within AutoCAD or Revit.
  • Quality Control: Perform quality control review analyses to ensure final documents and specifications exceed client expectations.
  • Interdisciplinary Coordination: Conduct interdisciplinary coordination and manage final reviews/approvals between disciplines and agencies, and respond to comments.
  • Construction Process: Continue involvement through the construction process, including submittal review, RFI response, field visits, and closeout documentation.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience on Higher Ed, Municipal, K-12, or similar Commercial projects.
  • Registration: Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of North Carolina, or ability to obtain your PE in North Carolina within 6 months.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Design and Sizing: Perform full plumbing system design and sizing (water, waste, storm drainage, fuel systems, med gas, etc.) calculations and plumbing fixture selection.
  • Layout and Diagrams: Design zone layouts and riser diagram for building sprinkler system.
  • Design Drawing Packages: Produce plumbing & fire protection design drawing packages (plans, construction details, specifications, life safety).
