BASIC FUNCTION:

The Visual Communications Specialist will assist the Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Communications and the Director of Graphic Design in various projects that necessitate artistic, design, and layout skills to develop visually compelling concepts that effectively communicate the University's mission through impactful artwork. The ideal candidate should have a solid background in graphic design, a creative approach to digital and AI-generated visuals, and a strong understanding of visual requirements for social media platforms. The successful applicant will engage in discussions with communication professionals to transform innovative ideas into visual formats; collaborate to establish visual strategies and production timelines; and consult with internal stakeholders on creative solutions.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Internal contacts include University executives, staff, and students. External contacts encompass media representatives, vendors, and alumni.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Design and create high-quality digital graphics for diverse platforms, including social media, newsletters, intranet, campus digital displays, online advertisements, and website visuals.
  • Collaborate with marketing and content teams to ensure visual materials adhere to brand standards and campaign objectives.
  • Develop visual solutions for marketing collateral such as University fact sheets, educational infographics, and other materials to inform stakeholders and enhance the institution's reputation.
  • Assist in selecting graphics and stock photography for editorial assets as needed.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in creating GIFs and animated designs using tools like Adobe After Effects, Animate, or similar software.
  • Work with the social media team to produce engaging content that fosters user interaction and brand recognition.
  • Possess knowledge of social media platforms and their specific graphic requirements.
  • Participate in the shared maintenance of the University's digital asset management system.
  • Promote best practices regarding accessibility in design.
  • Thrive under tight deadlines and in high-pressure environments.
  • Understand the distinctions between digital and print design products and assets.
  • Develop promotional graphics for campus initiatives.
  • Ensure all graphic content aligns with brand standards and maintains the highest quality.
  • Value high-quality customer service to stakeholders and demonstrate a thorough understanding of the University's vision, mission, goals, and objectives.

  • Highly skilled in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Canva, and Adobe Spark, along with other relevant design software.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual arts, or a related field. A minimum of two years of relevant experience. Experience with motion graphics, video editing, and illustration skills are advantageous.
