Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Outdoor Education Support Specialist to assist in outdoor programming during school hours. This role involves supervising students during activities such as hiking, rock climbing, ropes courses, mountain biking, and paintball.

Key Responsibilities:

The Outdoor Education Support Specialist will collaborate closely with the Education Team to ensure the safety and well-being of students during educational programs. Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with educators to provide supervision and support to assigned students.
  • Assisting in instructional activities and assessments as directed by teachers, aligning with academic coursework or Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Supporting class activities, including physical education and arts.
  • Leading outdoor education initiatives and supervising students during outdoor activities.
  • Assisting with morning routines in the residential program as needed.
  • Implementing behavioral interventions in the classroom using established principles.
  • Providing assistance with substitute lessons as assigned.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation, including attendance and incident reports.
  • Monitoring and supervising transitional periods, lunch, and other school activities.
  • Supporting community-based activities and appointments as assigned.
  • Assisting the Dean of Students or Academic Director with daily operations.
  • Participating in required professional training sessions.
  • Providing transportation for students and staff as necessary.
  • Engaging in student meetings, such as IEPs and ITPs, as directed.
  • Attending staff meetings as required.
  • Upholding student confidentiality and reporting relevant information to supervisors.
  • Understanding the administrative structure and program philosophy of MPA.
  • Representing Mount Prospect Academy positively to the community and stakeholders.
  • Adhering to all company policies and procedures.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Associate's degree or higher preferred.
  • Two years of experience working with children or youth, such as camp counseling or coaching.
