Position Overview:
This role is eligible for our Nursing Support Incentive Program, which includes a total of $5,000 distributed over a three-year commitment.

The Cardiac Medicine Intermediate Care Unit at UNC Health REX is situated on the 7th floor of the Heart and Vascular Hospital. This 24-bed unit specializes in providing intermediate care for patients with cardiac issues and multiple complex co-morbidities.

We cater to patients experiencing heart failure, dysrhythmias, heart attacks, and those undergoing pre- and post-cardiac/vascular procedures, as well as medical patients with significant cardiac histories. Our team is committed to serving both adult and geriatric patients.

Each room is equipped with GE bedside monitors and a computer system to facilitate the care of our complex cardiac patients. Care is delivered through a collaborative team approach, which includes nurses, care managers, advanced practice providers, physicians, pharmacists, chaplains, patient care technicians, and administrative staff.

Specialized technicians monitor patient rhythms from the Telemetry Command Center, providing ongoing support and surveillance for any rhythm changes.


Key Responsibilities:

As a Nursing Assistant, you will:

  • Assist healthcare providers during routine examinations and procedures, including the procurement of necessary equipment and supplies during emergencies.
  • In psychiatric settings, support patients with reality orientation, engage in behavior modification therapy, and provide informal support to patients and families.
  • Monitor and document patient information while delivering care, promptly reporting any significant changes in the patient's condition to a registered nurse or physician.
  • Guide patients and their families through the admission process, orienting them to the healthcare environment and assisting with discharge procedures.
  • Deliver care and treatments as outlined in the care plan, including measuring vital signs, collecting specimens, performing simple wound care, and assisting with daily living activities such as bathing and feeding.
  • Provide indirect care by maintaining a clean work environment, restocking supplies, and assisting in the orientation of new staff and students.
  • Reinforce patient education provided by registered nurses or physicians and document patient understanding of instructions.

Qualifications:

Education:
- High School diploma or GED

Licensure/Certification:
- Listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.

Experience:
- A minimum of six months of relevant nursing assistant experience, which may include completion of a nursing assistant course.

Skills:
- Proficiency in verbal and written English and basic computer skills.
