Niskayuna, New York, United States Naval Nuclear Laboratory Full time

Join the Naval Nuclear Laboratory and be part of a team that values pride and commitment to our core principles: diversity, inclusion, safety, and reliability in the operation of our nation's naval nuclear reactors.

The Reactor Plant Contractors' Office (RPCO) Program is currently seeking Nuclear Systems Field Specialists to support our operations. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the construction and maintenance of submarines that will serve for decades.

As a field representative of NNL and BPMI, you will provide essential engineering support and independent oversight for the installation, testing, and modification of reactor plant systems and safety components.

In this position, you will engage directly with Navy personnel, shipyard engineers, local government officials, and partner organizations, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.

Training and Development: The training and qualification process for this role is expected to take approximately 6-10 months, tailored to your previous experience, and will be conducted at a designated training facility.

Upon successful completion of the qualification, you will be equipped to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of reactor plant operations and testing, enabling you to function effectively in an engineering oversight capacity.

Travel Opportunities: There may be opportunities to travel to various field locations to support peak operational demands. This position entails a commitment of 3 to 5 years in a field office following qualification.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related scientific field with 2 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with 1 year of relevant experience; or current/previous qualification as an Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW) in the Nuclear Operations Program.
  • Experience in innovative problem-solving and performance improvement is highly valued.
  • Prior experience with the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program or in a nuclear-capable shipyard is preferred but not mandatory.

Benefits: We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, personal and medical time off, disability and life insurance, flexible work hours, and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory, operated for the U.S. Department of Energy by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC, is dedicated to advancing nuclear propulsion technology and training top-tier nuclear operators to ensure the safe operation of our naval fleets.

We are an equal opportunity employer, committed to workplace diversity and inclusion, and we encourage all qualified applicants to apply.
