Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Coding Audit and Quality Assurance Manager to join our team at Brown University Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and quality of coding practices across our organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement comprehensive training programs for coding staff to ensure continuous skill development and compliance with industry standards.
  • Conduct regular quality assurance reviews of inpatient and outpatient records to assess and report on the effectiveness of training programs and quality of coders.
  • Provide hands-on education to coding staff based on audit findings and needs.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for coding productivity and accuracy.
  • Monitor coding processes to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
  • Implement process enhancements to streamline workflows and increase productivity while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Collaborate with HR to recruit, hire, and onboard coding professionals with the required skill set and expertise.
  • Monitor coding staff workload and redistribute resources as needed to meet operational demands.
Requirements
  • Command of ICD-9/10-CM and CPT4/HCPCS coding conventions, E&M coding, diagnosis-related groupings (DRG), and ambulatory patient groupings (APG) methodology.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including ability to multi-task, prioritize essential tasks, follow-through, and meet timelines.
  • Ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to solve problems appropriately using job knowledge and current policies/procedures.
  • Ability to maintain and enforce strict confidentiality of all personal/health sensitive information and ensure compliance of HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in coding, with experience including education/mentoring/training.
  • Minimum of three years management experience required; five years preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CCS and AHIMA Certified ICD-10 Trainer credentials required.
  • Additional RHIA, RHI, or other coding credential is preferred.
  • Minimum of five years acute care hospital experience coding with ICD-9/10-CM/PCS and CPT-4, academic medical setting or trauma center preferred.
