Job Summary:

As a skilled Inpatient Coder, you will be responsible for accurately assigning diagnoses and procedures using ICD10 CM/PCS and CPT Codes under the supervision of the Coding Manager. You will require knowledge of all aspects of hospital coding and a strong understanding of coding guidelines. Your role will involve abstracting required data into the hospital information system and ensuring records are coded in a timely and accurate manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret a wide variety of clinical and diagnostic documentation, including complex medical treatment, to identify diagnoses, complications, comorbidities, and procedures associated with inpatient care.
  • Abstract required data into the hospital information system.
  • Ensure records are coded in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Work in a deadline-oriented environment and be a self-starter.
  • Utilize multiple payer-specific DRG groupers and have a working knowledge of the latest versions of DRG, ICD 10, and CPT coding systems.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Associates Degree with RHIT, RHIA, preferred.
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) is required.
  • Three years of experience as a hospital coder.
  • Basic computer knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft applications.
  • Meditech experience helpful, 3M experience preferred.

Working Conditions:

The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, and be able to work in an office or suitable home-office environment. The role may require long periods of visually examining documents and viewing computer screens. A telecommuting agreement may be available for remote work.
