Job Summary

The Manager of Diagnostic Imaging Support Services is responsible for planning, implementing, managing, and evaluating administrative support operations for Brown University Health's Diagnostic Imaging division. This includes Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, and Newport Hospital. The incumbent oversees out-patient scheduling and registration, coding, billing, and reimbursement, as well as transcription, editing, and image and documentation records maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Participate in the development and implementation of customer-focused and coordinated delivery of diagnostic imaging support services.
  2. Develop and implement related policies, procedures, and practices to ensure high-quality and customer-service standards.
  3. Communicate standards to staff and monitor activities to ensure continued awareness and adherence to established standards.
  4. Continually evaluate services, assess opportunities for process improvement, and implement change as appropriate.
  5. Facilitate effective utilization of resources, including people, financial, and material, by developing goals and objectives for Diagnostic Imaging support services.
  6. Identify resources required to achieve operating results and advocate for them during resource allocation.
  7. Develop and recommend capital and operating budgets for the area of responsibility.
  8. Monitor monthly expenses, review and reconcile reported variances, and take appropriate corrective action to control expenses.
  9. Interview, select, orient, train, schedule, develop, and evaluate subordinate staff.
  10. Develop annual performance objectives for supervisory staff to support key initiatives and priorities of the division.
  11. Provide direction and guidance to direct-report supervisors in establishing subordinate staff performance objectives.
  12. Assess the need for and make recommendations for corrective action up to and including termination as appropriate.
  13. Create employee ownership for their careers and success by providing staff with positive and action-oriented feedback to maximize utilization and potential of the organization's human resources.
  14. Serve as a role model to staff by continuously demonstrating Brown University Health's values and principles, creating and maintaining effective and positive customer service relationships.
  15. Ensure customer needs are met in a timely and effective manner, responding appropriately to difficult interactions and educating all staff on the importance of quality customer service.
  16. Maintain effective employee and labor relations, ensuring a work environment conducive to discussion of work-related concerns and issues.
  17. Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and human resources policies.
  18. Effectively and regularly communicate with staff, management, and customers to facilitate the flow of information necessary to the success of all.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Three to four years of related management experience, preferably gained in a similarly large and complex healthcare organization.
  • Experience must demonstrate the ability to effectively organize and manage multi-function administrative support staff, representing high standards for customer service.
  • Experience must reflect effective interpersonal skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic imaging services, healthcare coding and billing processes, and related regulatory standards is highly preferred.
