Job Summary:

This position is responsible for supporting the development of complex projects. The incumbent seeks solutions to technical problems, conducts work on assigned tasks, and exhibits process knowledge to operate in the field independently. The individual will be responsible for designing and implementing controls-based applications to interface with IT systems and machine controls. The incumbent should be capable of leading design and implementing PLC projects, ensuring equipment complies with all safety, environmental, and other regulatory compliances, and assisting in ensuring the proper design, installation, modification, and maintainability of new and existing plant equipment. Due to the nature of project support, domestic and international travel is expected to be up to 25% per year, as well as some off-hours work.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in preparing cost estimates, financially justifying projects, preparing budgets, reviewing design, supervising installation, and commissioning.
• Assist in researching new equipment, systems, and processes to advance plant operations.
• Gain understanding and assist in ensuring safety, environmental, and other regulatory compliances by working with appropriate associates on EHS issues, following the implementation of MSR's, and continually improving communication across all relevant departments.
• Participate in contractor management processes and periodically audit contractors' work to ensure safe work practices and standard operating procedures are followed.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math.
• 7 years' experience in control systems, PLC programming, VFD's, HMI's, servos, equipment design, automation engineering, and project management.
• Industry 4.0 and database messaging; communication protocol knowledge is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to use appropriate computer-based technology, interpret, and create technical CAD drawings and schematics.
• Ability to understand electrical or mechanical diagrams.
• Ability to program and debug programming languages and understand and troubleshoot machine problems.
• Knowledge in design electrical control systems and modern safety control systems.
