Electrical Engineer Job Description

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Transmission & Distribution global practice in Akron, Ohio. As a key member of our team, you will lead the electrical design of projects from conceptual phase to design completion, partnering with project managers to research, design, and compile project-related data.

You will apply your subject matter expertise in electrical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures to perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients. Your responsibilities will include leading the creation of project deliverables, utilizing innovative tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), 3D scanning, and model-based design.

We are looking for a highly skilled Electrical Engineer with a strong background in electrical engineering, preferably with EPC project experience. You will have the opportunity to work on dynamic projects engineering communications and network solutions that are modernizing today's electric grid infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the electrical design of projects from conceptual phase to design completion
  • Partner with project managers to research, design, and compile project-related data
  • Apply subject matter expertise in electrical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients
  • Lead the creation of project deliverables
  • Utilize innovative tools such as GIS, 3D scanning, and model-based design
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program
  • 7 years electrical engineering experience, preferably with EPC project experience
  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Strong knowledge of electrical equipment design ANSI and IEEE Standards
  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications
  • Ability to travel
