We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behavioral Health Specialist to join our team at OhioGuidestone. As a leading provider of community behavioral health care, we serve over 26,000 Ohioans each year, focusing on the needs of the whole person through prevention services, mental health treatment, and substance use treatment.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families in Henry County. As a Behavioral Health Specialist, you will provide community-based services to a diverse clientele with mental health and substance use diagnoses, with a focus on sober living clients and Napoleon IOP clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor client symptoms and response to treatment, communicating changes with the treatment team to ensure immediate and appropriate interventions.
  • Develop and maintain a service relationship with clients, families, and caregivers to provide support as needed.
  • Coordinate community resources, including referral sources and outpatient behavioral health providers, to ensure continuity of care and advocate for clients as needed.
  • Provide crisis intervention consultation in times of emergencies, coordinating and assisting in crisis management and stabilization as needed.
  • Facilitate appointments to ensure overall physical well-being, including basic, mental health, and substance use needs.
  • Review Diagnostic Evaluations and additional assessments to aid in the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans.
  • Attend and participate in agency/team/clinical meetings, including mandatory trainings and treatment coordination.
  • Perform related administrative responsibilities, maintaining client information, reports, records, and other documents, responding timely to emails and phone calls, and attending various trainings and meetings.
  • Accurately and promptly document and maintain the confidentiality of client and family interactions, including legal, financial, and clinical documentation within agency guidelines.
  • Meet with Supervisor for weekly supervision and maintain ongoing frequent contact with other assigned OhioGuidestone professionals or outside agency professionals assigned to case.
  • Promote an inclusive work environment and present the Agency in the most positive light with all internal and external contacts.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Some relevant experience and ability to demonstrate competencies in basic behavioral health skills, including understanding of human behavior, mental illness, psychiatric symptoms, and impact on functioning and behavior
  • Understanding of how to therapeutically engage a mentally ill person, concepts of recovery/resiliency, understanding of the mental health system, de-escalation techniques, and understanding of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of emotional and mental dysfunctions
  • Relevant experience or course of study in behavioral healthcare helpful
  • Positive, caring attitude toward substance use disorder (SUD) clients and their families
  • Knowledgeable about the disease of substance use disorder and community resources
  • Proficient computer skills, including Electronic Health Records, Windows applications, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.
  • Organizational skills, team player, and attention to detail
  • Ability to form relationships with diverse populations within diverse settings
