Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Criminalist to join our team at Hays County. As a Criminalist, you will play a critical role in the collection, processing, and analysis of evidence to aid in the investigation and prosecution of crimes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and Process Evidence: Gather, document, and preserve physical evidence from crime scenes, including fingerprints, DNA, and other biological materials.
  • Conduct Forensic Analysis: Use specialized equipment and techniques to analyze evidence, including fingerprint comparison, DNA profiling, and other forensic disciplines.
  • Prepare Reports and Testimony: Compile and present detailed reports of findings, and provide expert testimony in court as needed.
  • Collaborate with Law Enforcement: Work closely with detectives, investigators, and other law enforcement personnel to ensure that evidence is properly collected, processed, and preserved.
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Ensure that all evidence is properly documented, stored, and disposed of in accordance with established procedures.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in a natural or forensic science, or related field, and at least one year of experience in crime scene-related activities.
  • Skills and Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Certifications and Licenses: Current Class C Texas Driver's License and any other relevant certifications or licenses.
Work Environment

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with occasional exposure to hazardous materials and unsanitary conditions. The successful candidate must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and maneuver in tight spaces.
