Purpose and Overview:

The GSE Maintenance Specialist is responsible for diagnosing issues and performing repairs on Ground Support Equipment (GSE). This role includes mentoring junior technicians on troubleshooting and maintenance of simpler repair tasks, conducting inspections, and approving completed maintenance work. The specialist utilizes technical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and various technical publications to resolve repair challenges. Additionally, they leverage automated maintenance data systems to track maintenance trends, analyze equipment needs, maintain records, and document all maintenance activities. Proficient in using both conventional and digital diagnostic tools, the specialist ensures the effective functioning of GSE.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts maintenance on external fuel and grounding systems, performing both scheduled and unscheduled servicing of GSE. This includes inspecting, testing, and operating equipment to assess serviceability and operational integrity.
  • Services equipment with necessary fluids such as fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air, while diagnosing mechanical and electronic issues through visual and auditory assessments, as well as utilizing testing equipment and technical manuals.
  • Disassembles and reassembles malfunctioning GSE components, including cleaning, treating for corrosion, and ensuring proper reinstallation of parts. Compliance with technical publications for stenciling and marking GSE is mandatory.
  • Handles hazardous materials and waste according to environmental regulations, ensuring safe storage and disposal practices.
  • Prepares GSE for both storage and deployment, while also operating, cleaning, inspecting, and servicing towing vehicles associated with GSE.
  • Maintains comprehensive records of vehicle and equipment maintenance, both in paper and electronic formats, and provides dispatch services for GSE to support aircraft maintenance and operational activities.
  • Upholds safety standards and practices good housekeeping, tool control, and Foreign Object Damage prevention at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Ability to inspect, repair, and operate ground support and auxiliary equipment is essential.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary, with the capability to operate a government general-purpose vehicle.
  • Willingness to travel may be required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) may be necessary.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

This position is performed in a shop environment that is moderately lit, heated, and ventilated. The role involves exposure to fumes, potential cuts, and bruises from tool usage, as well as hazards from moving vehicles like forklifts. Regular tasks require standing, using hands for handling, and effective communication. The employee may frequently walk, reach, stoop, kneel, or work in uncomfortable positions. Lifting items weighing between 15-25 pounds is common, with occasional lifting of items over 45 pounds. The work environment may include exposure to loud noise levels and various environmental factors.
