Position Overview:

The City of Moline is seeking a dedicated Special Events & Sponsorship Specialist to join our Parks & Recreation Department. This role involves a variety of responsibilities related to the planning and execution of special events, festivals, and recreational programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and manage the department's special events and festival initiatives.
  2. Establish both short-term and long-term objectives for programs, aligning with departmental goals.
  3. Identify and pursue new funding opportunities through innovative programs, sponsorships, and grants.
  4. Conduct research to locate potential public and private grant sources, assisting in grant writing as needed.
  5. Coordinate events and programs across various departments and community organizations.
  6. Evaluate program effectiveness and suggest improvements.
  7. Handle participant registrations, process fees, and maintain accurate records.
  8. Respond to public inquiries regarding programs and services.
  9. Assist in the preparation of the annual budget for assigned events and programs.
  10. Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and policies.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess an Associate's degree or equivalent in leisure/recreation services or a related field, along with two years of relevant experience in recreation or tourism. Familiarity with office practices and public sector experience is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

The candidate should demonstrate:
  • Strong knowledge of event planning and recreation programming.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in modern office software and equipment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks effectively and maintain attention to detail.

Physical Requirements:

This position may require occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds and the ability to perform various physical tasks. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must reside within a specified distance from the City's Emergency Center within a designated timeframe.
