Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Postal Clerk to join our team at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. As a Postal Clerk, you will be responsible for overseeing the movement, sorting, and distribution of mail, as well as performing various accounting duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mail Management: Sort, receive, and distribute accountable and non-accountable mail, ensuring timely delivery and accuracy.
  • Accounting and Financial Management: Perform detailed accounting duties, including tracking and recording mail movements, and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Customer Service: Assist customers with filing USPS insurance claims and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Supervisory Support: Assist the Postal Supervisor with preparations for official USAF quarterly audits and provide support for U.S. Air Force and South Pole postal activities.
  • Mailroom Operations: Control USPS and Air Force-owned non-accountable equipment, coordinate with the Movement Control Center for outgoing and incoming mail, and maintain a safe and secure mailroom environment.
  • Inventory Management: Order postal supplies, maintain inventory records, and perform complete inventory twice per year.
  • Training and Development: Participate in MCI trainings and drill as determined by supervisor, train Unit Mail Clerks, and maintain official Unit Mail Clerk records.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with Safety, Environment, Health, and Waste Management policies and procedures, and maintain a safe workplace program.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Certifications and Licenses: AMPs account required or ability to obtain prior to employment, Current ServSafe Food Handler certificate must be obtained prior to deployment to Antarctica, Valid driver's license, and Valid U.S. Passport.
  • Experience: Two years of customer service experience required, Basic computer skills with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases required, and Previous experience with Station Services in Antarctica may be accepted on lieu of minimum experience.
  • Other: US citizenship and permanent residency required, and a prerequisite of employment for this position is to successfully gain a favorable Tier 1 - Elevated Background Investigation (EBI) result prior to deployment.
Working Conditions

This position requires working in a fast-paced mailroom environment, with frequent lifting and moving of mail and equipment. The successful candidate must be able to lift and move 75 lbs and work in a cold climate.
