Position Overview:
This is a full-time role requiring 80 hours biweekly, with evening shifts from 3 pm to 11 pm, including every other weekend and rotating holidays.
Role Summary:
The Clinical Intake Specialist plays a crucial role in the initial assessment and triage of clients seeking services. This position provides clinical oversight and facilitates the admissions process while serving as a knowledgeable resource regarding both internal and external services available to clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts triage of service requests, ensuring prompt and appropriate responses based on urgency.
- Records all service requests utilizing computerized systems for efficient tracking and management.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of insurance and managed care processes, including pre-certifications and authorizations.
- Employs structured interview techniques to perform comprehensive clinical assessments, documenting findings using standardized evaluation forms.
- Evaluates the appropriate level of care based on client history, psychosocial factors, clinical presentation, and funding circumstances.
- Guides clients and their families in completing necessary documentation and provides witness signatures as required.
- Collaborates with program staff to ensure smooth transitions for clients into appropriate programs, participating in necessary communication with psychiatrists.
- Interacts with clients and families with a strong emphasis on confidentiality and sensitivity to their emotional states.
- Assists licensed practitioners in the initial assessment of clients entering triage services, including documentation of assessment activities.
- Completes all required documentation for treatment authorization by third-party payers.
- Facilitates referrals to other levels of care or services as appropriate.
- Coordinates care with other providers or agencies involved in the client's treatment.
- Offers support to counselors in resolving complex situations and determining effective courses of action.
- Stays informed about community resources and shares this information with clients as needed.
- Acts as the initial contact for internal emergencies and administrative concerns, directing issues to the appropriate staff.
- Conducts security rounds and maintains awareness of campus safety protocols.
- Understands WellSpan Philhaven's admission criteria and mental health legal requirements, serving as a resource for staff.
- Maintains knowledge of behavioral management techniques and assists during behavioral emergencies.
- Completes training to serve as a designated Mental Health Delegate for involuntary commitments as necessary.
- Provides telephone crisis services when primary counselors are unavailable, and may serve as a primary Crisis Intervention Counselor if trained.
- Performs security and safety duties in accordance with established guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in a relevant field is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in psychology, social work, or a related area is required.
- Must possess a valid driver's license in the current state of residence, with a driving record that meets WellSpan Risk Management standards.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal skills, both verbal and listening, are essential for managing patient interactions and advising staff.
- Ability to provide counsel on sensitive matters and represent the organization effectively.
- Analytical skills are necessary to determine appropriate responses to crisis situations.
- Visual acuity to review documentation and observe patient behavior is required.
- Knowledge of patient care across all age groups, including the unique needs of children, adolescents, adults, and older adults.
