Job Summary

The Power Electronics Engineer, IR&D, is a critical role within Allison Transmission, responsible for driving innovation and advancing the company's technology roadmap. This position requires a highly skilled and motivated individual to lead the development of inverter technology, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and communicate technical learnings to stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and analysis on next-generation inverter technologies and trends to inform the company's technology roadmap.
  • Develop and execute work packages as part of collaborative projects with third-party partners to advance inverter technology.
  • Participate in industry seminars, tradeshows, and other events to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in power electronics.
  • Communicate technical results and learnings across the organization, including in-depth discussions with the Product Engineering team.
  • Support technical reviews for ongoing production inverter programs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in engineering and engineering R&D related to inverter technology.
  • Relevant automotive or commercial vehicle industry experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of inverter and propulsion technology, as well as relevant analysis and simulation tools.

Scope Factors
  • Maintain an advanced understanding and specialized expertise in inverter design.
  • Act as a project leader over complex projects, but not a supervisor of direct reports.
  • Submit budget requirements for work scope.
  • Interact and work with global supplier and corporate team members to assist with determination of the direction of the business as it relates to inverter technology.
Travel and/or Physical Demands
  • Up to 25% travel.
  • Remote work optional up to 2 days per week.
  • Ability to work in tight and low spaces, working around test equipment.
  • Ability to climb into and exit commercial vehicles under development.
