Position Title: Dietitian

Department: Nutrition Therapy

Reports to: Director of Nutrition Therapy

Classification: Hourly

Position Summary:

This role involves evaluating, recommending, and executing nutritional care strategies for both outpatient and inpatient settings. The position includes a mix of telehealth and in-person consultations, primarily focusing on outpatient care, with a rotating weekend on-call requirement for hospital services (every 4th weekend).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilizes current research and knowledge to provide optimal nutritional care, adhering to age-appropriate standards and employing validated assessment tools and evidence-based practices when available.
  • Implements the Nutrition Care Process (ADIME) for patient management and documentation in electronic medical records.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in conducting Nutrition Focused Physical Exams for adult patients and integrating findings into comprehensive nutrition assessments and diagnoses.
  • Delivers educational sessions to patients and families regarding nutritional therapy, tailoring methods to individual learning styles and communication preferences.
  • Identifies potential food and drug interactions, providing education in collaboration with pharmacy and nursing staff.
  • Adheres to state and national standards of nutritional care in daily service delivery.
  • Conducts nutritional risk screenings for inpatients and collaborates with Dietetic Technicians for assessments and interventions.
  • Collaborates with healthcare teams to recommend and implement nutritional care strategies.
  • Fosters positive interpersonal relationships among staff.
  • Takes responsibility for personal actions and decisions.
  • Records nutritional assessments and progress in the patient's electronic medical record.
  • If in an outpatient setting, communicates assessment and care plans to referring physicians.
  • Engages in quality improvement initiatives related to medical nutrition therapy within the department and hospital.
  • Participates in ongoing education programs and stays updated on current research in medical nutrition therapy.
  • Involves colleagues and the Nutrition Therapy Director in performance evaluations to identify areas for growth and excellence.
  • Maintains consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Operates independently while performing job functions.
  • In collaboration with the Nutrition Therapy Director, may:
    • Plan and deliver nutrition in-services for departmental staff,
    • Provide nutrition education to healthcare providers, patients, and support systems,
    • Develop and facilitate community nutrition classes as needed, and
    • Source nutrition education materials as required,
    • Serve as a mentor to dietetic interns and new staff as directed.

Education, Licensure, Certifications, & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree (graduated before 2024) or Master's degree (graduated 2024 and onward) with required dietetic coursework from an ACEND-accredited program or equivalent.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Certification as a Dietitian with the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) within 60 days of hire.
  • Washington State Food Handlers permit within 30 days of hire.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional education to maintain registration with the CDR and certification with the Washington DOH.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Human Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field (or equivalent).
  • Two years of clinical experience (inpatient or outpatient).
  • One year of outpatient experience.
  • Licensed Dietitian with the Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to navigate within and outside the office to guide clients to counseling areas, participate in interdisciplinary rounds, and conduct patient assessments in hospital settings.
  • Occasional lifting of supplies and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Frequent reaching and handling to obtain supplies, document reports, and utilize computer and telephone systems.
  • Constant communication and exchange of information for patient assessments and education.
Work Environment:
  • Work primarily indoors.
  • Minimal risk of injury from office equipment.
  • Limited exposure to biohazardous materials.
Travel Requirements:

Occasional travel to other clinics may be required.
