A Day in the Life of a Transportation Planner II
As a member of an interdisciplinary team, you will engage in planning and designing multimodal transportation infrastructure and programs. Our work spans various contexts, from urban streetscapes to signature trails that enhance rural landscapes and natural settings.
In this role, you will manage tasks, conduct analyses, interact with clients, represent Toole Design in meetings, and uphold our reputation as trusted professionals. You will collaborate with colleagues from various disciplines to deliver a range of exciting projects aimed at improving places and travel experiences for all. Your role will involve integrating feedback from diverse stakeholders to develop transformative plans that lead to real-world implementation.
Our projects vary in scale, including national, state, regional, and local initiatives. They encompass research, policy development, planning, design guidance, community engagement, implementation, and evaluation. We focus on multimodal corridor studies, Vision Zero initiatives, Safe Routes to Schools, new mobility solutions, and access to transit, all while adhering to our core mission: to align every project with our values of equity, climate responsibility, safety, and health.
Salary Range: $64,000 to $75,600
Qualifications for a Transportation Planner II:
- A minimum of 4 years of education and/or experience in relevant fields such as urban planning, landscape architecture, urban design, engineering, or public health.
- Experience in multimodal transportation, safety, inclusive public engagement, or communications is highly valued.
- Proven ability to manage projects or tasks independently while contributing to a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong writing skills with experience in producing documents that convey technical information to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Excel for data analysis and demographic studies.
- Experience in creating visually appealing work products, including infographics, data visualizations, and mapping using ArcGIS or QGIS.
- Familiarity with various data collection methods, including surveys and focus groups.
- Strong cultural competency when working with individuals from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds.
- Experience in marketing stages, including business development and proposal writing, is a plus.

Work Schedule:
This full-time position typically involves a flexible schedule of 40 hours per week. We provide our employees with the necessary tools and flexibility to work from home 2-3 days per week.
