About the Quality Team at Zipline

The quality division at Zipline encompasses three key areas: Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME), Manufacturing Quality Engineering (MQE), and Supplier Industrialization Engineering (SIE). Collectively, this organization is accountable for the success of Zipline's manufacturing, operational processes, supply chain, and the products we deliver.

Internship Roles

As an AME Intern, your focus will be on designing assembly lines and equipment for Zipline's Top Level Assemblies (TLAs) to be produced at our Contract Manufacturers (CMs). This role involves collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders on manufacturing and assembly design, assembly process and equipment design, commissioning, validation, and ongoing improvements to enhance operational efficiency.

As an MQE Intern, your responsibilities will center on ensuring the quality and reliability of our in-house manufacturing processes. This includes monitoring yield performance, conducting root cause analyses, implementing corrective actions for assembly and functional test failures, and contributing to the development of a world-class manufacturing organization through innovative process improvements.

As an SIE Intern, your projects will aim to enhance manufacturing operations and quality at critical suppliers. This role will require collaboration with various stakeholders on manufacturing and assembly design, process design and implementation, statistical quality control, and root cause analysis to ensure suppliers meet established quality, cost, and delivery targets.

Key Responsibilities

As an AME Intern, you will:

  • Facilitate Design for X (DfX) discussions with stakeholders regarding Zipline TLAs and sub-assemblies.
  • Oversee the planning, budgeting, design, procurement, commissioning, and validation of assembly lines and associated equipment for product validation and mass production.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Assist in training operators for assembly line operations.
  • Provide technical support for plant operations and assist in troubleshooting production issues.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators for assembly line quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives aimed at enhancing line performance.

As an MQE Intern, you will:

  • Conduct failure analyses and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Participate in ongoing product and process optimization efforts.
  • Monitor key metrics such as first pass yield and product dwell times.

As an SIE Intern, you will:

  • Engage in DfX discussions with stakeholders and incorporate feedback into designs.
  • Manage the development and implementation of manufacturing processes to ensure supplier compliance with Zipline's Approval Process.
  • Assist suppliers with root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Track and report on Supplier Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to develop action plans for improvement.
  • Lead process improvement projects at suppliers to enhance quality and delivery metrics.
Qualifications
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD Software (preferably NX) and ability to interpret engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with various manufacturing processes including machining, injection molding, and assembly.
  • Understanding of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
  • Knowledge of problem-solving frameworks and root cause analysis techniques.
  • A willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Currently pursuing a graduate or undergraduate degree in relevant fields such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering, with prior experience in product design or manufacturing processes.
