Definition

As a Wildlife Enforcement Specialist, you will be responsible for upholding the animal control and waste management regulations set forth by the local health department, ensuring the well-being of both domestic animals and the surrounding community.

Key Responsibilities

1. Respond to public inquiries and requests for assistance regarding animal-related issues.
2. Capture and relocate stray or abused animals, ensuring their safety during transport.
3. Patrol designated areas using various modes of transportation, including vehicles, bicycles, and on foot.
4. Investigate reports of animal control violations, issuing warnings or citations as necessary.
5. Conduct thorough investigations into animal attacks or cruelty cases, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
6. Administer first aid to injured animals and coordinate necessary medical care.
7. Educate the community on compliance with animal control ordinances through public presentations.
8. Maintain accurate records of activities and interactions, ensuring all documentation is up to date.
9. Participate in emergency response efforts as part of the incident command structure.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required. A minimum of one year of experience in animal control, care, handling, or related fields is preferred. A valid Montana Driver's License is required. Candidates must be prepared to undergo a pre-employment physical exam, driving history check, and criminal background check.

Physical Demands

This role involves outdoor work in various weather conditions, requiring physical stamina for tasks such as lifting, bending, and capturing animals. Candidates should be comfortable working in potentially hazardous environments and dealing with aggressive animals when necessary.
