ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
As an Aquatic Safety Attendant, your primary responsibility will be to ensure a safe swimming environment in the pool and surrounding areas. You will foster a welcoming atmosphere that respects all individuals while adhering to YMCA safety protocols. Building positive relationships with members and participants through effective communication will be key to your role.
KEY FUNCTIONS
Main Responsibilities (On Duty):
- Maintain vigilant observation of the aquatic environment.
- Be familiar with emergency protocols and respond promptly to incidents as per YMCA guidelines.
- Recognize and celebrate the achievements of members and participants.
- Exhibit qualities of honesty, caring, respect, responsibility, reliability, flexibility, maturity, and sound judgment.
- Wear the designated uniform while on duty, including lifeguard shirt, swimwear, whistle, and necessary safety equipment.
- Complete tasks during shifts with adequate coverage.
- Arrive on time for scheduled shifts and arrange for substitutes when necessary.
- Participate in all required training and meetings for aquatic staff.
- Document safety and maintenance records as outlined in the Lifeguard Manual.
- Inspect and maintain emergency equipment and report any repair needs.
- Engage with members to enhance retention and build relationships.
- Communicate with the Aquatics Supervisor regarding program issues and member feedback.
- Perform other assigned duties as needed.
- Minimum age of 15 years.
- Possession of a nationally recognized lifeguard certification is preferred, with training available for eligible candidates.
- Ability to achieve and maintain necessary certifications, including CPR, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen Administration, and AED.
- Maintain physical and mental readiness to fulfill lifeguarding responsibilities.
