Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Phlebotomy Specialist to join our team at Norwalk Hospital Association. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing phlebotomy, assisting technical staff, and maintaining proper inventory of reagents and control materials.

Responsibilities
  • Collect specimens from patients for subsequent lab analysis in accordance with approved techniques and observes Universal Precautions.
  • Deliver samples to the appropriate lab and log samples in the Lab LIS.
  • Ensure specimen integrity while performing specimen accessioning and processing using established handling, labeling and processing procedures.
  • Load samples received on the MPA and prepare specimens for dispatch to reference laboratory or intra-laboratory.
  • Process, stain and cover slip slides where applicable.
  • Maintain reagent inventory, labels and stores reagents appropriately, dating when received, opened and when expires and stores appropriately.
  • File specimens, slides and reports for easy retrieval and discard specimen at proper intervals.
  • Answer phones and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Add on test requests following established laboratory protocol for Add-On Requests.
  • Restock supplies in work area as needed.
  • Communicate well with other staff members to ensure excellent customer service and appropriate follow-up.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum of one-year job-related experience.
  • Strong phlebotomy skills.
  • Organizational and customer service skills.
  • Data entry.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Phlebotomy Certification preferred, not required.
Working Conditions

This position requires significant manual skills/motor coordination and finger dexterity. Some occupational risk is involved. Medium to Heavy effort may be exerted, and some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc. may occur.
