Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Gas Engineer I to join our team at Spire. As a key member of our construction engineering group, you will be responsible for designing and estimating construction projects for the replacement of existing natural gas facilities and the construction of new natural gas facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Engineering Manager and Field Operations in coordinating designs with GIS Analysts, Environmental Engineering, System Planning, Right of Way, Pipeline Safety and Compliance, Field Operations, and outside companies.
  • Record and track each set of improvement plans from preliminary to final stage through construction.
  • Assist in the daily coordination, assignment of work, and oversight of GIS Analyst and Construction Engineers.
  • Work on special projects, including bridge crossings, railroad crossings, design non-normal services, and calculating stress on pipelines with non-typical amounts of cover.
  • Specify and procure non-stock material required for all types of main and service work.
  • Review design and cost estimates for all types of main and service work, review delivery pressures, and justify proposed main work.
  • Handle calls and correspondence regarding the status of jobs and projects.
  • Prepare necessary paperwork related to the Company's procedures for gas main and service work as required.
  • Attend utility meetings and pre-construction meetings to negotiate with representatives from engineering firms and municipalities to reduce the impact of proposed improvements to the Company's existing facilities.
  • Attend site meetings to resolve specific issues or conflicts with the Company's facilities and proposed improvements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited school required.
  • Engineering in Training certificate preferred.
  • Minimum 0-2 years' engineering experience in natural gas or similar industries.
  • Knowledge of project management techniques and proven ability to lead across functional teams/work across functional areas to achieve mutual goals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with both internal peers, staff of acquired entities, and third-party service providers.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and use of Spire's systems such as Maximo, OBIEE, Oracle, Sharepoint, and Asana.
Work Environment

Work is normally performed in a shared, open-office environment. Hybrid in-office/remote work schedule. Work hours are typically 7:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. An additional 20 hours may be required per month to complete necessary work in the areas of responsibility that fall under this position. Overnight travel is required to visit various work locations and to attend business functions. Up to 20% travel required.
