Overview

IMPORTANT NOTICE: This is a newly established examination process. The resulting eligible list from this examination will supersede any existing lists and may remain valid for approximately one year, with the possibility of extension.

The Alameda County General Services Agency (GSA) provides a wide range of logistical support services to County agencies and partners. This includes facility maintenance, fleet management, energy and environmental services, capital project oversight, procurement, and recycling initiatives. POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision, the Floor Care Technician is responsible for stripping, waxing, refinishing, and shampooing various floor types within a secure, 24/7 detention environment. Duties may also include general janitorial responsibilities and other related tasks as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

EITHER I:

Experience:

Six months of full-time experience as a Janitor or Janitor in Detention Facilities within the Alameda County classified service.

OR II:

Experience:

Six months of full-time janitorial floor care experience, including carpet, tile, or finished concrete.

OR III:

Experience:

Six months of full-time janitorial experience in an office or institutional setting, along with completion of floor care training.

License:

A valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license is required.

Special Requirement:

Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance. Availability for day, evening, night, and rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, is essential.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The ideal candidates will demonstrate the following competencies:

Knowledge of:
  • Modern janitorial techniques, materials, and equipment, including the correct usage of power-driven waxing and buffing machines, soaps, detergents, disinfectants, cleaning compounds, extractors, carpet machines, and pressure washers.
  • Safety protocols and procedures relevant to floor maintenance.
  • Safety measures necessary in a secured environment.
Ability to:
  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
  • Comprehend and follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Perform repetitive tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Work effectively and safely with diverse individuals in a high-security setting, which may include the presence of inmates.
  • Utilize janitorial materials, products, and equipment safely and correctly.
  • Lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Acquire basic computer skills.
  • Work independently with limited or no on-site supervision.
EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of the following components:
  1. A review of applications to confirm minimum qualifications. Candidates meeting the minimum requirements will proceed to the next examination step.
  2. A performance evaluation weighted at 100% of the final examination score.
Candidates must achieve a qualifying rating in each part of the examination.
