Job Overview

Salary:
We are looking for a CNC 5-Axis Machining Specialist to become a vital part of our federal operations team. This role involves the execution of tasks necessary for the operation of CNC-controlled multi-axis machining equipment. Responsibilities include utilizing live spindle machining, boring, drilling, tapping, milling, and turning operations. The role also requires the use of specialized cutting tools suitable for multi-axis machining, including O.D. and I.D. grinding as applicable. Operators will be responsible for the maintenance and care of this equipment, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily operations by interpreting complex drawings, process sheets, and CNC programs to ensure effective machine utilization.
  • Set up and load large production components and heavy fixtures onto pallet stations, employing appropriate material handling equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness by removing coolant and metal chips from workpieces and machinery to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Prepare and store primary and backup tooling using tool management systems.
  • Monitor control messages and take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Perform manual tool offset and compensation to address casting variations.
  • Conduct online inspections and maintain statistical process control (SPC) documentation as required.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure quality standards.
  • Engage in deburring tasks as part of the machining process.
  • Complete general housekeeping duties and preventative maintenance checklists.
  • Assist maintenance technicians with machine upkeep as needed.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of one year of relevant experience.
  • Ability to interpret complex shop prints and utilize precision measuring instruments.
  • Knowledge of CNC machines, machining practices, and material properties.
  • Experience in setting up and operating CNC horizontal machining centers.
  • Strong judgment and initiative to maximize productivity while adhering to quality standards.
  • Physical capability to handle average to heavy weights and perform tasks requiring climbing, bending, and reaching.
  • Continuous mental and visual attention for efficient machine operation.

Preferred Education:

  • Completion of formal apprenticeship training is advantageous.
