Job Summary

Community Counseling Services, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our team. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with mental illness in their recovery journey.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide transition services to individuals with mental illness, utilizing evidence-based practices and community resources to promote recovery and well-being.
  • Develop and implement individualized Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP) to support clients in achieving their recovery goals.
  • Link clients to a broad range of community-based services and natural supports, including behavioral health programs and community mental health programs.
  • Meet with clients and their family members to develop and implement individualized recovery plans, incorporating client input and feedback.
  • Share personal lived experience to establish rapport, build trust, and promote hope for recovery.
  • Assist clients in articulating and determining objectives to reach personal goals for recovery, as well as, developing empowerment skills through self-advocacy and support.
  • Maintain client confidentiality at all times.
Documentation and Quality Improvement
  • Document relevant events within specified timelines.
  • Document progress clients make toward meeting objectives and personal recovery goals.
  • Complete and submit documentation in compliance with agency policy and DMH standards.
  • Submit monthly reports on performance measures by the 15th of the following month.
  • Review data on performance measures monthly to determine if goals are being met.
Interpersonal and Leadership Skills
  • Attend and participate in treatment team meetings as needed.
  • Assist non-consumer staff in identifying program environments that are conducive to recovery.
  • Share unique insight into mental illness with non-consumer staff and what makes recovery possible.
  • Serve as a role model and emphasize the value of each individual's recovery experience.
  • Respond to individual needs in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Demonstrate appropriate interactions with coworkers that promote a pleasant work environment.
  • Participate in meetings/trainings with other Peer Support Specialists. Develop and share recovery-oriented material with other Peer Support Specialists.
Support Duties
  • Complete additional job duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Participate in interagency collaboration for the provision of services.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current trends in the mental health field and effective peer support services.
Requirements
  • Ability to be certified and complete DMH Certified Peer Support Specialist program.
  • Demonstrate a minimum of six (6) months in self-directed recovery.
  • An individual who self-identifies as a consumer or former mental health consumer.
  • Completion of required training in compliance with DMH standards.
  • Requires satisfactory completion of CPR prior to reporting to the work site.
  • Requires satisfactory completion of CPI within 30 days of employment.
  • Requires valid driver's license and auto liability insurance.
