Position Overview

Leadership:

  • Oversees the workflow of phlebotomists in the Specimen Processing section.
  • Acts as the Charge Medical Technologist (MT) in the absence of the supervisor or Lead MT.
Logistics and Transport: Ensures the precise and efficient movement of laboratory supplies, equipment, and specimens.Adheres to all regulations and laws regarding the processing and transportation of laboratory specimens.
Specimen Management & Processing: Complies with regulatory standards in the handling and processing of laboratory specimens.Follows established protocols for accurate patient identification and labeling of all specimens.
Communication: Engages effectively with all NMHS personnel, patients, their families, and customers.
Customer Engagement: Utilizes AIDET principles as applicable.Participates in CARES training.Ensures appropriate service recovery for patients and/or caregivers when necessary.Answers phone calls in a courteous and efficient manner.
Team Collaboration: Works collaboratively with all Pathology and NMHS staff.
Documentation and Reporting: Ensures timely and accurate reporting of department testing relevant to their area.Contributes to achieving departmental Performance Improvement goals.Maintains proper documentation of all required monthly maintenance and quality control for instruments.
Training and Development: Assists in the training of students and new staff members.Engages in continuing education programs to enhance and expand skills.Stays informed about regulatory changes.
Compliance: Adheres to NMHS/NMMC Policies, Procedures, and Guidelines.Complies with relevant Local, State, and Federal regulations, policies, and guidelines.Follows standards set by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI).
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Science, or a related field is required.ASCP Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist is required within 12 months of graduation from an accredited Medical Technology Program. Note: If ASCP certification has recently lapsed, the employee will have 90 days to fulfill continuing education and recertification requirements.A valid Mississippi Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are preferred.Proficient skills with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) are required.Strong organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal) are essential.Knowledge of and appropriate handling of biohazardous specimens is required.Essential Requirements
