Job Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of supervisory staff, the technician will adhere to established infection control protocols, quality assurance measures, and departmental guidelines.
The primary duties include:
- Collecting, cleaning, decontaminating, disinfecting, and sterilizing surgical instruments, trays, packs, and reusable medical devices.
- Managing inventory, restocking, and distributing medical supplies to various departments.
- Working predominantly within the Sterile Processing Department to prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment.
- Processing instruments used in inpatient surgical procedures.
- Participating in departmental training and in-service sessions.
Essential Duties:
- Infection Control: Strict adherence to hand hygiene, workflow protocols, and standard precautions to ensure sterility.
- Quality Assurance: Maintain and validate sterilization records, disinfection parameters, and inventory management.
- Documentation: Ensure compliance with regulatory standards for sterilization and disinfection processes.
- Staff Development: Engage in employee orientation and competency evaluations.
- Decontamination: Utilize personal protective equipment while inspecting and processing reusable instruments.
- Instrumentation Assembly: Identify and assemble various surgical instruments per established guidelines.
- Preparation and Packaging: Select appropriate packaging materials for sterilization processes.
- Equipment Management: Collect, clean, and track patient care equipment, ensuring proper inventory levels.
- Workplace Safety: Comply with safety policies and report hazards promptly.
- Professionalism: Demonstrate effective communication and teamwork skills.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of one year in instrument processing with knowledge of medical terminology and surgical procedures.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED.
- Certification: Current certification from a recognized Sterile Processing board.
