Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Laboratory Manager to join our team at North Oaks Medical Center. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the laboratory by managing and coordinating the people and processes for various laboratory sections.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the administrative, fiscal, and technical activities of assigned laboratory sections to ensure efficient operation.
  • Ensure adequate staff are scheduled for assigned areas to provide services efficiently, including staff flexing according to volume demands.
  • Manage recruitment, selection, training/orientation, competency assessment, assignment, guidance, and supervision of all assigned staff.
  • Develop performance standards and monitor productivity with recommendations for any applicable personnel actions.
  • Ensure employee orientation records, annual competency, and continuing education records are compliant with all applicable accreditation/certification standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Laboratory Regulatory Analyst to ensure assigned laboratory sections are in continuous readiness and consistently compliant with requirements.
  • Plan for use of space, purchases of new/replacement equipment, and use of outside services.
  • Assist in the justification and evaluation of equipment and supplies ensuring adherence to budget constraints.
  • Identify strategies and lead tactics towards unit cost reduction, quality improvement, and overall lab productivity growth in collaboration with the Laboratory Director and Laboratory leadership team.
  • Ensure the systematic assessment and implementation of quality, safety, and performance improvement initiatives as part of a department quality management system.
  • Design and implement reengineering and continuous performance improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Laboratory Regulatory Analyst to develop and implement metrics to ensure operations are meeting service and quality objectives.
  • Determine needs, identify costs, and develop justification as part of providing input to developing operating and capital budgets for assigned areas.
  • Conduct final review and approve payroll for personnel in the assigned laboratory sections.
  • Monitor and ensure completion of actions determined for response, resolution, and/or mitigation of complaints, incidents, accidents, and/or occurrence reports.
  • Act as liaison between staff and department management team, hospital administration, and medical staff as needed to promote efficient operations that meet their service needs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited program in medical laboratory science required.
  • Master's degree in healthcare administration or business administration preferred.
  • Must be currently licensed in Louisiana as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist. Required to maintain licensure throughout term of employment.
  • Certified as CLS(ASCP) or MT(ASCP) or equivalent.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote).
Working Conditions

The incumbent is responsible for a working knowledge of hazardous chemicals, biohazardous materials, and potential exposure to low levels of radiation, including laser light and electrical hazards.

May be exposed to high stress position, potential for prolonged periods of standing and walking.

Collaborates with the Laboratory Regulatory Analyst to ensure assigned laboratory sections are in continuous readiness and consistently compliant with requirements.

Follows North Oaks Health System's Compliance Programs and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.
