Job Title: STAR Mental Health Therapist

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled licensed mental health clinician to provide individual and group therapy to trauma-affected refugees and immigrants struggling with adjustment to resettlement in the United States.

Job Summary:

The STAR Mental Health Therapist will provide culturally-sensitive brief and/or long-term therapy to trauma-affected refugees and immigrants. The therapist will develop and facilitate therapy groups tailored to the needs of refugee and immigrant communities that CRIS serves. The therapist will work closely with case managers and other agency staff to provide holistic support to clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide culturally-sensitive brief and/or long-term therapy to trauma-affected refugees and immigrants
  • Develop and facilitate therapy groups tailored to the needs of refugee and immigrant communities
  • Work closely with case managers and other agency staff to provide holistic support to clients
  • Maintain timely, accurate, confidential client records, including progress notes and treatment plans
  • Prepare reports as required for funding and program evaluation purposes
  • Participate in community outreach efforts to raise awareness of mental health resources and services available at CRIS
  • Provide training and education to agency staff on mental health issues relevant to newcomers
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and awareness in all interactions with clients
  • Stay informed about cultural practices, trauma experiences, and resettlement challenges specific to refugee populations
  • Offer support and crisis intervention for clients experiencing acute distress or emergencies
  • Ensure that appropriate referrals and follow-ups are made
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and self-care to maintain personal well-being and high-quality service delivery
  • Collaborate with student interns in the provision of program services, offering mentorship and guidance
Requirements:
  • Minimum Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy
  • Licensure or certification in the state of Ohio as a mental health professional (LSW, LISW, MFT, LPC, LPCC)
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and cultural competence/humility
  • Crisis intervention skills and experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and rapport building skills
  • Ability to be self-directed with position responsibilities
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in clinical role/method/structure
  • Skilled at working on a team
  • Proficient in maintaining confidential clients' records and preparing reports
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Apps including Google Drive, e-mail, and internet
  • Experience working with diverse populations and limited English-speaking communities
  • Experience working with an interpreter preferred, but not required
  • Fluency in the a language spoken by the communities served is preferred, but not required
  • Participate in a required background check
