Job Responsibilities

The Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking a dedicated and experienced human resources professional to join our Office of Human Resources. This role offers the opportunity to deliver advanced human resource services in a dynamic, high-volume HR environment, supporting an agency with over 600 salaried employees across various functional areas, including talent acquisition, classification, compensation, training, and policy development.

Key Functions

  • Manage the talent acquisition process, including assisting with job postings, screening candidates, preparing interview materials, and reviewing hiring documentation.
  • Conduct verifications such as driving records and educational qualifications, and represent the agency at recruitment events.
  • Ensure compliance with all talent acquisition policies and procedures, aligning with the Commonwealth's objectives.
  • Perform classification and compensation duties, including conducting position audits and assisting with the development of Employee Work Profiles (EWPs) and Physical Demand Worksheets (PDWs).
  • Facilitate training sessions and contribute to policy development and interpretation for assigned areas.
  • Travel may be required for training sessions and recruitment events.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess advanced knowledge of human resource management principles, federal and state laws, and have substantial experience in human resources, particularly in talent acquisition, classification, and training. Strong communication and facilitation skills are essential, along with the ability to analyze personnel situations and make sound administrative decisions. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR information systems is required, along with a high school diploma or equivalent.

Additional Considerations

A combination of relevant education, training, and experience in human resources management or a related field is preferred. Experience in state or local government HR practices is advantageous. Familiarity with state software systems and a current professional HR certification will be beneficial.
