Key Responsibilities

  • Proven experience in estimating for a Heavy Civil Contractor focused on site development projects is essential.
  • Responsible for estimating project costs typically ranging from $500,000 to $20,000,000, including adjustments for change orders.
  • Estimating self-performed tasks, encompassing labor, equipment, and material pricing.
  • Capable of soliciting, evaluating, and prioritizing material and subcontractor bids for management consideration.
  • Possess a solid understanding of construction assemblies and all phases of project execution.
  • Ability to generate precise estimates from conceptual and schematic designs.
  • Competent in producing detailed, final contract estimates.
  • Adept at assessing site conditions and construction risks, ensuring accurate cost analysis is reflected in estimates.
  • Skilled in identifying constructability challenges throughout the estimating process.
  • Ability to propose value-engineering options.
  • Team-oriented with strong collaboration skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project or Primavera, Excel, Word, and Adobe applications.
  • Experience with Agtek, Trimble Business Center, Carlson, CAD, or similar takeoff/modeling software is required.
  • Responsible for preparing a construction handoff package post-award and addressing field inquiries regarding takeoff and pricing strategies.
  • Familiarity with HCSS or B2W software is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

Education and Experience:
This position is not entry-level and requires demonstrable experience as an Estimator. A four-year degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is mandatory. Candidates must effectively understand work directives and communicate with management and colleagues. Experience in estimating grading, utilities, and demolition for a Heavy Civil Contractor is essential. Typical projects include site development, industrial and commercial projects, utilities, mining reclamation, overburden removal, demolition, and general site work. A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are required.

Physical Requirements:

The following physical demands are necessary for the Estimator to perform essential job functions:


  • Regularly required to sit and/or stand for at least eight hours during a work shift.
  • Occasional requirements to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.
  • Ability to frequently lift at least 50 lbs. and carry up to 15 lbs.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described below are typical for an Estimator performing essential job functions:

  • Work is primarily conducted indoors.
  • The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate.
  • Site visits may be required for pre-bid and client meetings, field verification of project bid documents, and development of future project or change order proposals.
