Job Title: School Outreach Worker

CAMBA is seeking a highly motivated and experienced School Outreach Worker to join our team. As a School Outreach Worker, you will be responsible for engaging with students, building relationships, and providing a visible staff presence in the school community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Outreach and market the program within the school
  • Engage with students during arrival, lunch periods, and dismissal to build relationships
  • Diffuse conflict between students, engage in conflict mediation and violence interruption activities, and conduct crisis intervention as needed
  • Coordinate with school administrators, in-school program staff, and the local NYPD precinct to identify hot spots around the school where violence typically occurs
  • Assist in organizing responses to conflicts that occur in and around the school
  • Prepare marketing materials and market the program within the school community
  • Attend and help facilitate social/peer support events
  • Review all documentation establishing clients' eligibility for program and make file copies
  • Assist clients in completing all CAMBA intake applications and forms, and as needed complete applications for benefits and entitlements
  • Create and maintain client files
  • Conduct initial intake or assessment of clients and clients' families and/or periodic reassessments
  • Follow-up with clients and with referral organizations regarding client contact and progress with referral organization
  • Work with clients to break through barriers to client goals and to assist clients in advocating for themselves and in moving toward self-sufficiency
  • Recommend and implement strategies to persuade clients to participate more fully in this process
  • Act as client liaison/client advocate with outside organizations regarding such matters as education, healthcare, housing, etc.
  • Monitor clients' progress toward their goals (dates achieved) via regularly scheduled telephone contact and/or face-to-face office visits and document via progress notes
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) and one year of applicable experience, or Associate's degree (A.S.) and two years of applicable experience, or High School Diploma or HSE and three years of applicable experience
  • Relevant experience as described above, preferably in a mid-sized (250+ employees) organization
  • Good written & verbal communication
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong knowledge of the Canarsie community
  • Flexibility with working a flexible schedule including morning, evening and weekends as needed, and be prepared for various outdoor weather conditions during their workday
