This is a place where your work can profoundly impact patients' lives and shape your professional journey. You'll have the opportunity to grow and excel in an environment that is rich in diversity and innovation.

When you become part of BMS, you join a dynamic team driven by a shared mission.

The Neuroscience Thematic Research Center (Neuro TRC) is dedicated to developing groundbreaking therapeutics for individuals suffering from neurodegenerative, neuromuscular, and neurophysiological disorders. Our ambition to lead in neuroscience is supported by a network of external collaborations across various diseases and treatment modalities, including small molecules, biologics, and genetic therapies. Our internal research focuses on understanding the causal human biology that connects the immune system and protein misfolding to neurodegenerative conditions, emphasizing the use of human-derived cells to investigate disease mechanisms.

Key areas of focus include, but are not limited to, the discovery of disease-modifying therapies for neurodegenerative, neuro-inflammatory, and neuromuscular disorders; strategies to enhance protein clearance and mitigate toxic protein production; innovative technologies (RNA, DNA targeting) that align with causal human biology to create a precision medicine portfolio with a high likelihood of translational success; AI/ML applications in target identification and neurology drug discovery; neuroimaging and fluid biomarkers for monitoring disease progression and target engagement; and novel delivery technologies for crossing the blood-brain barrier.

Here, you will have the opportunity to pursue innovative ideas while advancing your career alongside some of the brightest minds in the biopharmaceutical industry.

Position Overview:

The Neuroscience Thematic Research Center (Neuro TRC) integrates external partnerships and internal research to build a diverse portfolio addressing unmet needs in neurodegenerative, neuro-inflammatory, and neuromuscular diseases. The Senior / Principal Scientist, Translational Research, collaborates with other Neuro TRC members to design and deliver translational data packages that facilitate the swift advancement of drug candidates toward clinical proof-of-concept. This role is primarily laboratory-based.

  • Collaborate closely with the Director and leadership team to establish biomarker and assay strategies at both project and program levels.
  • Lead the selection of biomarkers for various programs.
  • Engage actively in data analysis and interpretation, communicating findings internally and externally in alignment with TRC commitments.
  • Oversee study design, contracting, quality assurance, and execution of selected studies conducted externally through CROs or research partners.
  • Work collaboratively with in-house scientific teams to develop and implement study designs, data analyses, and interpretations that support high-priority neuro projects/programs.
  • Monitor budget and expenditures related to biomarker studies, providing regular updates within the TRC.
  • Prepare and review internal project reports as necessary; present scientific data at internal and external conferences.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 8+ years of academic and/or industry experience
  • Or
  • Master's Degree with 6+ years of academic and/or industry experience
  • Or
  • Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in Life Sciences with 4+ years of academic and/or industry experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in cellular and molecular fields, preferably in neuroscience, with 2+ years in academia and an additional 2+ years in industry experience focused on early R&D or translational science.
  • Practical experience in immunoassays and molecular assays (e.g., ELISA, Meso-scale discovery, SIMOA, qPCR, dd-PCR, RNAseq).
  • Expertise in identifying novel fluid biomarkers using advanced technologies in transcriptomics and proteomics.
  • Experience managing external projects at CROs or academic collaborations to gather critical data for programs.
  • Proven ability in designing, troubleshooting, analyzing, and interpreting data from translational and experimental medicine studies.
  • Experience in managing study budgets and tracking individual program/project components.
