We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Services Representative to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate patient scheduling, including creating and managing appointments, rescheduling, and cancelling appointments as needed.
- Request and verify interpreter services to ensure effective communication with patients who require language assistance.
- Verify and set up active and contracted insurance coverage in multiple systems, and educate patients on co-insurances, co-pays, and other payment options.
- Market the benefits of our patient portal and assist patients with enrollment.
- Manage multi-line telephone systems, responding to incoming and outgoing calls in a timely and professional manner.
- Identify and direct patients with emergent or urgent symptoms to appropriate clinical staff for screening and coordination of care.
- Manage messages, including accurate and complete messaging, and propose orders and coordinate communication with clinic staff.
- Manage various work queues, taking prompt action to respond to pending requests.
- Prepare and send letters, portal messages, or phone calls to communicate important information and patient outreach.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- 1 year of experience in a customer service role, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with diverse individuals and dispositions.
- Ability to problem solve, stay calm under pressure, and present oneself in a professional manner when responding to inquiries.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to spell accurately and write legibly.
- Ability to work independently, show initiative, and work productively within a team environment.
- Actively listen to and validate patient conversations, employing de-escalating techniques as appropriate.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and access, analyze, and apply concepts associated with protocols, policy, and guidelines.
- Keyboarding skills and working knowledge of Windows-based software systems.
- Previous experience in a medical reception or similar administrative role, or experience providing direct clinical patient care.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology and common medications.
- Knowledge and experience accessing and verifying insurance coverage, including Real Time Eligibility (RTE) and Payer/Insurance Portals.
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience, preferably Cerner or Epic.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and other health industry compliance standards.
