Seattle, Washington, United States F. Hoffmann-La Roche Gruppe Full time

At F. Hoffmann-La Roche Gruppe, we foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion, reflecting the communities we serve. Our commitment to embracing individuality is crucial in understanding the diverse healthcare needs of our global community.
The Position We strive to advance science so that everyone has more time with loved ones.
Roche Diagnostics' acquisition of Stratos Genomics in 2020 marked a significant milestone in DNA sequencing technology. The company's unique chemistry, known as Sequencing by Expansion (SBX), revolutionizes nanopore sequencing. You will be responsible for designing and synthesizing molecular building blocks for our novel technology, transforming DNA sequences into measurable surrogates, called Xpandomers. This breakthrough improves the accuracy and throughput of nanopore sequencing.
The Molecular Engineering team is passionate about their innovative molecules and the impact SBX can have on advancing sequencing and patient outcomes. We are seeking individuals who share our enthusiasm for the significance of this technology and want to contribute to its success.
The Opportunity:
You will conduct research, design experiments, and lead cross-functional teams to drive projects forward. Your attention to detail will ensure high-quality results. You will also mentor and drive teams, identify and troubleshoot problems creatively, contribute to project goals, develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), participate in production, perform data analysis, maintain accurate records, present findings, and propose improved processes.
Who You Are:
A successful candidate will have 6 years of experience in advanced nucleotide/heterocyclic chemistry, phosphorus chemistry, or complex/multi-step organic synthesis. Alternatively, you may have a Bachelor's degree in Organic Synthesis, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related field and 10 years of experience, or a Master's degree in Organic Synthesis, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related field and 9 years of experience, or a PhD in Organic Synthesis, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related field and 6 years of experience. Ideally, you should have demonstrated expertise in developing chemistry for nucleotides, phosphoramidites, heterocycles, amino acids, bio-conjugations, and mature understanding of chemical and biochemical samples handling, reactivity, purification, and storage. Experience with HPLC, MS, NMR, automated DNA synthesizers, inert atmosphere chambers, and manual pipetting is highly desirable.
Ideally, you will have a strong background in next-generation DNA sequencing and be familiar with SBX technology. You will need to submit a cover letter outlining your interest in working with us, your specific interest in SBX technology, and how you would contribute to its success.
