Job Description

At Southern Medical Management LLC, we are seeking a highly skilled Medical Claims Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for coding, processing and filing insurance claims, collecting patient payments, and overseeing the collections process.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Researches all information needed to complete the billing process.
  • Codes for all services, procedures, and treatment rendered by assigned physicians.
  • Assists in the processing of insurance claims.
  • Follows-up with insurance companies and ensures claims are paid/processed.
  • Processes payments from Insurance companies.
  • Posts transactions and reconciles insurance and patient payments.
  • Works with other staff to follow-up on accounts until zero balance.
  • Assists in error resolution.
  • Assists with setting up patient payment plans and work collection accounts.
  • Answers patient questions and concerns related to billing.
  • Answers the phone, screens calls, takes messages, and provides information.
  • Maintains required billing records, reports, and files.
  • Performs clerical duties that include answering the telephone and sorting mail.
  • Researches returned mail.
  • Participates in educational activities.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality as related to HIPAA.
  • Performs related duties as required.
Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with a working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding, professional customer service skills, and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. The ideal candidate will also have a working knowledge of relevant policies and regulations, flexibility to respond to changing demands, and the ability to work effectively as a team member.
