Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Power Systems Engineer to join our team at the City of Austin. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing complex power systems and electrical infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced power system analyses, including protective coordination, fault studies, load flows, and system expansion studies.
  • Develop and prepare engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for transmission and distribution systems, generation and substation facilities, and market operation and settlement systems.
  • Provide technical expertise in materials, design, welding, equipment standards, and relay coordination.
  • Formulate and implement operating and safety procedures and guidelines for system facilities, including substations, transmission, distribution, and generation.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for regulatory agencies and stakeholders.
  • Assist in providing technical and financial inputs for projects in the electric utility budget process.
  • Identify, investigate, and analyze engineering design problems, and develop corrective actions.
  • Provide technical leadership for major or complex engineering and construction projects.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of advanced mathematical techniques, such as trigonometry, calculus, and coordinate geometry.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards, principles, methods, codes, practices, procedures, materials, and equipment used in the design, construction, and operation of electric utility systems.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements within local and state ordinances and laws.
  • Ability to perform complex engineering calculations and analyze engineering problems.
