Job Summary:

The Medical Laboratory Technician plays a vital role in the clinical laboratories, providing support services by resolving problem specimens/orders and responding to telephone inquiries for test results and specimen collection criteria.

This position requires a strong commitment to customer service, with excellent communication skills to interact with internal and external customers. The Medical Laboratory Technician must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple priorities and adapting to frequent changes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare specimens for analysis by accessioning orders via LIS (CIS), verifying specimen acceptability, and performing established pre-analytical procedures in accordance with laboratory policy.
  • Provide support services for the clinical laboratories, resolving problem specimens/orders and responding to telephone inquiries for test results and specimen collection criteria.
  • Utilize excellent customer service skills to interact with internal and external customers, providing accurate and timely testing and reporting results to requesting physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Display a positive and professional interpersonal style, with a strong commitment to the team effort.

Requirements:

  • Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or other equivalent accrediting agencies.
  • New graduates of an accredited program must obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Associate Degree in Clinical/Medical Lab Sciences, unless grandfathered under previous requirements.

Working Conditions:

  • Rotating weekends as required.
  • Holiday scheduling as required.
  • On-call availability, approximating 4-5 weeks per year, for emergency coverage on any shift.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting less than 20 lbs.
  • Lifting 20-50 lbs.
