Position Overview:

The Head of Strategic Partnerships, Cell and Gene, plays a pivotal role in shaping and implementing essential strategies and growth initiatives within Cardinal Health's NPHS Precision Health Solutions division. This position is crucial for ensuring that the business unit meets its strategic and financial targets.

In this influential role, the Head will maintain an up-to-date understanding of market dynamics and foster strategic alliances with competitors, enhancing the leadership's insights into market trends and their potential implications for the business.

As a member of a high-impact team, the Head will bring extensive experience in fast-paced industries and environments, coupled with exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities. A personable and approachable demeanor is essential, as is a strong drive for success that aligns with Cardinal Health's core values. The ability to articulate complex concepts and strategies to senior executives is a key requirement.

This role reports directly to the Senior Director of Business Development, Strategic Planning and Execution and functions as an individual contributor. Due to the travel requirements, the candidate can be based anywhere in the United States with convenient access to a major airport.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate growth strategies and long-term positioning plans for the cell and gene sector within Cardinal Health's NPHS Precision Health Solutions.
  • Proactively identify, develop, and manage a pipeline of strategic opportunities.
  • Conduct thorough research to gain a comprehensive understanding of the market, competitors, products, and potential targets in alignment with Cardinal Health's objectives.
  • Oversee the prospecting, design, contracting, negotiation, and closure of agreements with innovative partners.
  • Identify mutual interests with innovators to establish optimal deal structures.
  • Provide insights to NPHS leadership regarding emerging competitors and technologies.
  • Maintain regular communication with executive teams for deal evaluations, updates, and discussions.
  • Act as the primary account owner for select Strategic Partners within Cardinal Health NPHS Precision Health Solutions, ensuring that expected business outcomes are achieved.
  • Lead negotiations that fulfill business objectives for both Cardinal Health NPHS and its partners.
  • Expand the network of trusted advisors and information sources related to business development.
  • Assist in assessing and executing strategic opportunities and potential business agreements.
  • Lead or support financial and operational due diligence and business case development for agreements.
  • Develop new policies and procedures as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field is preferred; an advanced degree is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated scientific knowledge in related fields (e.g., biology, chemistry, laboratory sciences, imaging) is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in business development is preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare sales within the Cell and Gene sector, pharmaceuticals, in-vitro Lab Diagnostics (IVD), or medical device industries is highly preferred.
  • Proven ability to cultivate effective long-term relationships with customers and partners, leading to mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills, with the ability to thrive in fast-paced, matrixed environments.
  • Expertise in negotiation, contracting, and deal modeling.
  • Experience in creating tailored solutions to meet unique customer needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence across functions.
  • Proficient in presenting and communicating complex ideas and strategies to senior leaders and stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a communication style that fosters confidence among employees and management.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Willingness to travel 50% of the time or more; international travel may be required.
