Position Objective: The Maintenance Technician I is tasked with the installation, upkeep, troubleshooting, and repair of machinery within the facility. The role is essential for ensuring optimal performance of plant equipment to enhance production efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage spare parts inventory by assessing and controlling stock levels.
  • Procure necessary parts from local suppliers and catalogs as required.
  • Replace bearings, belts, and idler pulleys on conveyor systems.
  • Service and clean pneumatic valves on sorting machines while maintaining a tidy work environment.
  • Coordinate with mechanics and supervisors regarding equipment concerns across shifts.
  • Safeguard and maintain work tools.
  • Create backups for sorting computer software and parameters.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance and repairs on various equipment including bucket elevators, screw conveyors, forklifts, front-end loaders, and sweepers.
  • Assist in the installation of facility machinery.
  • Provide support to fellow maintenance technicians.
  • Perform basic electrical troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Conduct checks and routine maintenance on Non-Ferrous Metal Detectors.
  • Document daily maintenance and repair activities, while upholding a preventive maintenance program for mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Offer on-the-job training to new team members.
  • Engage in rigging of motors, conveyor pulleys, and other heavy machinery components.
  • Execute welding and fabrication tasks, including patching steel chutes and transitions.
  • Utilize problem-solving skills and project management techniques.
  • Collaborate effectively as a team player, contributing to team objectives.
  • Troubleshoot sorting computers operating on a Windows platform.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills:

  • Expertise in mechanical and electrical maintenance.
  • Strong communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel is advantageous.
  • Welding and fabrication skills.

Knowledge:

  • Proficient communication in English and Spanish is essential in certain locations.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement practices.
  • Electronic experience is a plus.
  • Experience with mechanical conveyor systems.
  • Knowledge of glass processing is beneficial.
  • Strong background in mechanical conveyor operations.
  • PLC experience is an advantage.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to perform the aforementioned duties is required.
  • Exposure to dusty and noisy environments may occur periodically.
  • The role involves a combination of light, moderate, and heavy physical activities associated with technical tasks.

Physical Requirements:

Must be capable of occasionally lifting or moving up to 50 pounds. The position requires bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and climbing steps up to 50% of the time. Up to 75% of the work involves walking or standing. Regular use of hands for handling tools, machinery, welding equipment, and mechanical parts is necessary, along with fine motor skills for operating machinery and computers.
