Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $69,197 - $88,317. The City of Kentwood provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes a 22% contribution to the retirement plan (12% from the employer and 10% from the employee), 11 paid holidays, 24 hours of personal time, 96 hours of sick leave, and up to four weeks of vacation each year.

We take pride in being one of the first municipal employers in West Michigan to offer a fully paid parental leave benefit. Our policy grants employees four weeks of fully paid leave following the birth, adoption, or placement for adoption. Employees who give birth are eligible for an additional two weeks of leave, totaling six weeks of fully paid time off.

Additionally, we offer competitive medical insurance with a 2% employee premium share, which ranges from $8.64 to $20.00 biweekly, along with free telehealth consultations. Employees also benefit from no-cost dental insurance, vision coverage, a health savings account with an annual employer contribution between $800 and $1,600, flexible spending account options, and a generous retirement health savings plan. Furthermore, we provide employer-paid life insurance, long-term disability coverage at no cost to employees, and free access to an employee assistance program.

Position Overview

Key Responsibilities for this role involve delivering a range of public safety and law enforcement services aimed at safeguarding the lives and property of the City's residents and visitors.

The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of an associate degree upon completion of the basic training academy and meet the following criteria:
  • At least 18 years of age;
  • A United States citizen at the time of testing for the position;
  • No felony convictions;
  • A valid Michigan driver's license prior to the hire date;
  • Completion of a police academy.
