Position Overview:
As a Customer Relations Specialist II within the OCFS, you will engage in a diverse array of direct service and administrative responsibilities aimed at facilitating service delivery to families involved with the child welfare system.

Key Responsibilities:

Your role will encompass various tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Conducting Child Protective background verifications.
  • Managing records, correspondence, and databases.
  • Performing occasional administrative duties such as scheduling work shifts, coordinating appointments, arranging travel, procuring supplies, and reviewing documents to fulfill requests.

To excel in this position, you must possess strong interpersonal abilities, organizational skills, and proficiency in computer applications. You will be expected to collaborate effectively with team members and engage with the public in a courteous and professional manner, even in challenging situations.

Your responsibilities may involve significant travel within the service areas and could require occasional mandatory overtime. A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and a clean driving record are typically required.


Typical Duties Include:
  • Reviewing documents and information, identifying facts, spotting errors and inconsistencies, and taking authorized actions.
  • Creating, maintaining, and updating computerized databases.
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders, including other state agencies, the public, and local governments.
  • Conducting and submitting assigned child protective clearances while adhering to established protocols.
  • Processing all incoming and outgoing correspondence (opening, sorting, distributing).
  • Preparing monthly logs of completed tasks and participating in unit meetings to improve coordination of essential activities.
  • Assisting members of the Background Check Unit with additional duties as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify, candidates must have training, education, or experience in office and administrative support that demonstrates:
  1. Competency in applying a solid understanding of quality customer service principles to perform complex tasks in assisting the public with applications, fees, examinations, or social services with eligibility or compliance components.
  2. The ability to make independent decisions regarding appropriate processes, information handling, and actions in accordance with standard procedures.

Preferred Skills/Experience:
  • Experience working directly with children and families in a social service environment.
  • Proficiency in standard workplace applications (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
